Description
The American Chestnut Leaf(Castanea dentata) is a large, monoecious, deciduous tree of the beech family native to eastern North America. Once there were 4 billion American Chestnut trees growing in Eastern United States. Tall, fast growing, rot resistant and straight grained, these magnificent trees were resourceful in the use of furniture and fencing and building. The nuts of the Chestnut Tree fed billions of people and their livestock as well as forest wildlife. Sadly a blight fungus introduced from Eastern Asia killed the American Chestnut tree over a century ago. The blight was considered one of the greatest ecological disasters ever to strike forests world wide. To commemorate the beauty and importance of the Chestnut Tree in American history, HookNHide is proud to offer this beautiful Chestnut Leaf belt buckle. |
